In
aviation’s first 100 years, how many aircraft were named “Hawk”? More
importantly, how many of our guests LOVE the Iowa Hawkeyes?
Answer: 99.99% of them! Therefore, like
peanut butter and chocolate, the combination of these two beloved themes has
made our Hawk Suite into a home-run favorite for everyone!
Strangely, this rather obvious
combination theme never occurred to us. In 2007 we ran an on-line contest to
“Name our Next Aviation Suite” – and this name was the winning entry. With a
forehead slap and a big “D’oh!”, we set out to transform this comfortable
and spacious one-bedroom suite into a Hawk dream!
And
what a fun suite it is! There are aircraft galore, from the Curtis P-40
WarHawk fighter plane, to the Cessna 172 Skyhawk that thousands of pilots
fly every weekend in search of that $100 hamburger. Even the P6E Hawk – a
rare, pre-World War II fighter – is represented, as is the Vietnam-era A-4
Skyhawk, one of the most successful fighter/bombers of that war.
On the Hawkeye side of things, the 1958
National Champion Iowa football team gaze down from the living room wall in
an autographed picture, posters of the Hawkeye girls gymnastics team
(perched on the wing of an airplane, no less!) grace the other wall, and
Hawkeye lamps and signs complete the effect. Hawks of all kind are simply
everywhere…
And this 450 square foot suite is set up
for sports, with two big wing chairs, a large color television, DVD player,
refrigerator and mini-bar all in the living room. But it’s not all sports --
a separate queen-sized bedroom, Jacuzzi hot tub, microwave, coffee maker and
bagel toaster, plus our delivered-to-your-suite continental breakfast, make
this suite sure to please wives and girlfriends alike!
