The B-52 model crash was not the same as the real one. The model crashed
due to pilot error. Gordon throttled back the Wren turbines too much on
the downwind leg.
With models you should throttle back on down wind lines to avoid the
airplane being over stressed, but in this case Gordon throttled back too
much and the B-52 ran out of airspeed. Which is unrecoverable with a
model of that size. A model of a smaller plane that is powered by
propeller would easily recover but as turbines take time to power up,
the B-52 was unable to maintain its airspeed and turned over and
crashed.
It overflew me on a different airshow line, and crashed in a field near
a house, our safety officials at our airshow site rushed over and were
unable to help the model.
That's the full story.
Cheers,
Paul
