Iowa City Airport History
In 2007 the Iowa City Airport Commission and the
U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in cooperation with the State
Historical Society of Iowa, sponsored the writing of an official history of
the Iowa City Airport. In a painfully bittersweet twist, this
wonderful document was financed with the same FAA grant that will pay for
the destruction of the historic Boeing/United Hangar.
Wonderfully written by Jan Olive Nash, of Iowa
City's Tall Grass Historians, LLC, this history fills in some of the gaps in
previous attempt at documenting the Iowa City Airport, and includes many
photographs from the 90 year history of the airport.
