GLIDING

This page was last updated on 11/16/2007

Sometimes called soaring, powerless flying is considered by many to be the purest and most beautiful form of flight.  Here are some videos that capture that feeling of freedom and joy.
Aerobatic Soaring  The squeals of delight from the camera-woman say it all!   Filmed at sunset over Camden, Australia.
ASK-21 Aerobatics   This lovely video was filmed on Hokksund Airfield, Norway (ENHS), and show aerobatics being performed in an ASK-21. Submitted by Anders Bjørnestad.
Dump It    This video shows a fellow coming to grief whilst flying a hang glider.  Does anyone know the origin of this video?  Contributed by David Williamson.

New Info 11/16/07 from Tiago:

"My name is Tiago and I am from Brazil.  What really happened on that (video) was the pilot did not connect himself on the delta wing.  Jjust after takeoff the pilot used the emergency ballistic parachute for himself and jumped out, leaving the passenger alone!  I think it was the only chance to save his life because he would not be able to hold on until the delta wing loses altitude and land. It happened in Rio de Janeiro few years ago, but I don’t know exactly when."

Glider Aerobatics  Contributed by Yves Bastien.  This is a great glider aerobatics clip. The pilot is Lars Eric Lundin of the Gothenburg Soaring Club, filmed on location at Alingsas Sweden in 2000. You don’t get to see a glider rolling every day!
Hang Glider Landing    Contributed by Dave Williamson.  "This landing resulted in NO damage and NO injury! There are scant few pilots still doing these on fast, modern, kingpostless hang-gliders here in West Sussex, U.K. Yours, still picking bits of mud from the glider, Dave Williamson."
Mountain Hang Gliding  Breath-taking footage of a tandem hang gliding launch over some beautiful terrain in Laveno, Italy.  Sent in by Dave & Sara Williamson.
