East Coast Page 3
After our fuel stop in Beaufort -- home of the 54th Massachusetts (the
first all-black regiment in the Union Army during the Civil War, and subject
of the movie "Glory") , we headed south once again, toward
Myrtle Beach. En route we flew down the "Intercoastal Waterway" -- a canal
that has been dredged through some very inhospitable areas to provide a
sheltered path for shipping up and down the coast. Here are a
few pictures of that amazing public works project:

Just south of there we ran into some rain, so light that it wasn't even being
"seen" by our XM weather radar map. It was mostly virga,
thankfully, and we
were soon approaching North Myrtle Beach -- a VERY nice place, indeed.
There, the airport folks found us a wonderful suite at the nearby "Baywatch Resort".
Despite its cheesy name, we were given a gorgeous 18th floor, ocean-side
3-bed suite, with balcony and a full kitchen, for the FBO rate of just $78 per night!
(Tax added a whopping $20, to make it $98 -- but that was still a bargain!)
We were able to get a great night's sleep, and then spent the entire day
(Tuesday) at the beach, soaking up the 75-degree sunshine. After a
long Iowa winter, it felt great! Joe and I missed a
few spots with the sunscreen, and we were rewarded with pretty significant (but highly
localized) sunburns.
Here are some pix from Myrtle Beach:
