East Coast Page 2
After spending the morning at the Wright Brothers Memorial, we were
parched and hungry. Unfortunately, the Park Service has agreed to NOT
sell any food or beverages at the site, so there wasn't so much as a pop
machine to be had. The park employees helpfully pointed out that
restaurants were "only" 1/2 mile away, not appreciating the fact that we had
flown in, and were on foot.
So, where to eat? Friends in the aviation newsgroups had
recommended stopping at Ocracoke Island, a spit of land in the barrier
islands off the Carolina coast, for lunch at "Howard's Pub".
With perfect weather and no better ideas, we arced our way southward, down
the coast.

while landing at Ocracoke Island.

After Ocracoke it was down the coast to Beaufort, NC for gas. This
lovely little airport is a real gem, and the folks that work there were
extremely helpful. After gassing up, we asked them where *they* would
go to find some sun and fun, and they unanimously recommended flying down
the coast to North Myrtle Beach, SC. This turned out to be a fantastic
recommendation.
