CPA Iowa City Fly Out
On Saturday, November 13, 2004, we held our first
"Cherokee Pilots Association Midwest Fly Out." It won't be our last!
The weather -- always dicey in November -- was
absolutely perfect, with cobalt blue skies, comfortable temperatures, and
calm winds. We were rewarded with a nice turnout, with 16 CPA
members flying in from all over the Midwest.
After providing tours of the hotel, we all headed
over to "The Lark" -- a wonderful locally owned restaurant that has been in
business since World War II. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves,
and everyone seemed to enjoy their fine food, excellent service and
reasonable prices.
We held three drawings -- two for the coveted
"Alexis Park Inn & Suites" baseball caps (won by Dawn Peltzer and Dave
Pearson) and one for the Grand Prize of a "Free Night in the Pan Am Clipper"
honeymoon suite -- won by Dave Hahn. Incredibly, Dave randomly
selected himself from the drawing box -- which, of course, everyone believed
was a complete set-up!
After a fine lunch and a fair piece of hangar
flying, we transported everyone back to the airport, where our fellow
Cherokee owners departed Iowa City, hurling themselves headlong back
into that crystal clear sky -- what a great day!
In fact, Mary and I had such a great time that we
will surely be doing more CPA fly outs -- at least twice per year!
