Big Kids Toy Show '06
From November 2005 through May 2006,
we
expended a tremendous amount of time and energy on the creation of the Big Kids Toy
Show, a three-day free extravaganza at the Iowa City Airport, located just
400 yards from our front door.
First as Secretary, and later as Vice President
of the non-profit "Big Kids Toy Show, Inc." board of directors, Jay invested
hundreds of hours into the show, with hopes of bringing the people of Iowa
City out to the airport for a fun, positive event. In this, we
succeeded beyond our best expectations! The weather and crowds
were GREAT!
The ultimate goal of the show, however, was
to raise money for the construction of a permanent aviation exhibit at the
Iowa
Children's Museum. This museum, located at Coral Ridge Mall in
Iowa City's "sister-city", Coralville, is the largest children's museum in
Iowa, and will be the perfect site for an exciting aviation exhibit aimed at
getting kids interested in general aviation.
As a major sponsor, everyone at the Inn was
involved at every level of the show, from the Friday Night sponsor party,
through the final flights on Sunday afternoon. It was an
incredible amount of work, but it will all be well-worth the effort when
that aviation exhibit finally opens to the public!
