2008 Flight to Texas From Thursday, June 19th through Wednesday, June 25th we lived like Flying Gypsies, flying from place to place as the weather and whim dictated. Our only missions were (a) get to the Cherokee Pilots Association fly-in, held annually at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Grand Glaise, Missouri, and (b) to spread the "good word" about our aviation themed hotel to pilots and FBOs at every stop. In this regard, the trip was a great success. And, after four years of trying unsuccessfully to get to Texas (and always being turned back by thunderstorms) we FINALLY made it to the "Hangar Hotel" in Fredericksburg, Texas, where we spent a couple of days exploring this very enjoyable tourist area. Unfortunately, the Hangar Hotel was mostly closed down while we were there (both their restaurant and "officer's club" are closed Sunday through Tuesday each week), and they only have single-bed rooms (so the kids slept on the floor) making our experience less-than stellar -- but the facility was nice. And, of course, the surrounding area is chock-full of attractions, including the outstanding "National Museum of the Pacific War" -- an attraction that kept us busy for hours -- so the visit wasn't wasted. Then, it was on to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Why? Because we'd never been there before, and we figured it would have some neat stuff to see! Between the new Riverfront development, and the Oklahoma Aquarium, we weren't disappointed. Here are some pix from the journey: |
