2008 - A Winter to Remember
The Winter of 2008 was the first "real winter"
Iowa had seen in over a decade, with snow on the ground continuously
starting at Thanksgiving, and near-zero temperatures the norm for weeks on
end.
With snowstorms a twice-weekly occurrence, snow
piles built up to prodigious heights, and business at the hotel boomed with
road-weary travelers trying to escape Mother Natures' wrath. It
was a great year for winter sports, however, with snowmobiling and skiing
making huge come-backs!
